Building Codes Campaign in Indiana

The Challenges of Improving Energy Efficiency

Please help us persuade the Daniels Administration to update our residential building energy code to the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Residential housing uses 20% of energy consumed in the United States. Improving the energy efficiency of our homes is the quickest and most cost-effective way of meeting Indiana’s energy needs while reducing carbon emissions that contribute to global warming.

Increasing the energy efficiency in our residential building code could save Hoosier homeowners more than $200 a year on energy costs. Investment in energy efficiency will also help create jobs in manufacturing, architecture, technology and construction.

In the next few weeks, the state’s Residential Code Review Committee will consider what energy code to recommend for adoption by the state Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission. You can help get the Daniels Administration to weigh in on this important decision by writing a letter to the governor. We have provided a sample letter below.

Letter to the Indiana Governor

Now that you know the challenges of improving energy efficiency in our state please take time to send Governor Daniels a letter encouraging them to support the adoption of the 2009 IECC for residential construction. Here is a sample letter you can use (Word document).
