April 12, Day Trip to the Field Museum of Natural
History
We have a special opportunity to learn about the Field
Museum’s Ancient Americas exhibit
with Native American expert, Jim Pieckarczyk, as our guide. General admission
tickets cover this exhibit. We may take the 8 am
South Shore

Adopt a Highway’s 11th Annual Trash Bash
Help kick off the new season during the annual INDOT Trash Bash. Our lush stretch
of US Route 12 east and west of Lake/Porter County
Line Road will get a good spring cleaning during
this first of four cleanups planned for 2008. We are sure to see marsh birds
returning to their summer homes or catch a glimpse of a rare bird just passing
through. Meet us at the Inland Marsh parking lot near Ogden Dunes. Please bring
gloves and dress for the weather. Water and snacks provided; plus, starting
this year, if you can make it to three of the cleanups, you’ll get a cool
t-shirt! Please join us.

Farm Tour – A Conservation Community in Michigan City
RSVP for lunch at 12 pm Tour at 1 pm
Progressive architecture meets sustainable living in this unique neighborhood
where three-fourths of the 170 acre settlement are preserved as green space,
woods, and farmland. We’ll be given a tour of the beautiful grounds and farm
plus some of the residents will open their homes to us and describe their efficiency
and smart design. There will even be an architect there to talk about the
efficiency features of the homes and answer questions. Join us and see how we

Tour of Ivanhoe State Nature Preserve
Em'rynn Artunian will lead a tour to show results of dune and swale restoration
at the preserve. We should see lots of red-headed woodpeckers and wildflowers
like lupine, robin's plantain, and puccoon in bloom. There is no charge, but
please call to preregister and get directions because the number of participants

Saturday, June 7, 9 a.m. Open House - Crème de la Crop Narural
Farm
Join us in Valparaiso for an open
house at the first natural Community Supported Agriculture farm in Porter
County. We’ll discuss where our
food comes from and organic farming techniques while touring this 10+ acre
chemical-free farm which provides fresh produce to members and at local farm
markets. We’ll sample some tasty, wholesome locally grown produce and have an
opportunity to pitch in on the farm at 208 North 250 West, Valparaiso,
IN, one light east of Shorewood

Saturday, June 28, 10:00 a.m. Adopt a Highway
Come out for the second cleanup of the season at our beautiful piece of US
Route 12 east and west of Lake/Porter County Line Road.
The pied-billed grebe and green heron make their home in the marsh while the
wildflowers bloom on the roadside here along the Indiana Dunes National
Lakeshore and the Inland Marsh. Meet us at the Inland Marsh parking lot near
Ogden Dunes. Please bring gloves and wear pants. Water and snacks provided.
