About Us

The Heartlands Group of the Sierra Club is located in Central Indiana, which includes Indianapolis (Marion County) and the adjacent counties of Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Morgan, and Shelby.

Executive Committee

The Group is run by its Executive Committee consisting of seven members elected for two-year terms by the Heartlands membership, with three or four new members elected at the end of each year.

Outings Coordinator

The Outings Coordinator is responsible for organizing nature throughout the year. Examples of the types of outings are: day hikes, bird watching, cave trips, camping trips, canoe trips and backpacking (from beginning to advanced). The assigned leader will determine a central meeting location. Often the leader can help participants contact others to organize their own ride-sharing and even help locate equipment. You need not be a member of the Sierra Club to participate in a Heartlands Group outing.

Programs Coordinator

The Programs Coordinator is responsible for organizing General Membership Meetings, monthly programs consisting of speakers and presentations on topics of interest to members of the Heartlands Group. The general public is also welcome.

The December program is a holiday party that is usually held on a different night and often in conjunction with other local environmental groups.
