July 19, 2008, 10:00 am - Outing:  Hike, Off the People Trail, Columbus.  Hike off the People Trail in the woods along Haw Creek. If traveling East on 25th Street, turn left on Marr Road. At 32nd Street, turn left and park along the people trail (parking may be limited, so bikes and carpooling suggested, or park in the neighborhood). We will meet where 32nd dead ends at the curve. Good hike for children, about one hour, more or less, depending on weather. This is a heavily wooded area with lots of trails running through it along the creek, very pretty. Some of you in the area will know it as the spot "where there is a park bench with a pile of mulch next to the People Trail". For more information, email Brian with subject heading "Hike July".

August 9, 2008, 2:00 pm - Outing:  Picnic at Dennis Tibbetts'.  Swimming, botanizing, feeding the fish, and a pitch-in supper. Directions: From Columbus on State Road 11, go exactly 1.1 miles south of the green “Waynesville” sign. The drive is on the right; look for an orange traffic cone. For more information contact Dennis Tibbetts, 812- 372-6476.

September 13, 2008, 9:00 am - Outing: Knobstone Trail Hike.  The 58 mile Knobstone Trail is the longest continuous hiking trail in Indiana.  We will hike a 7 mile loop beginning and ending at the Spurgeon Hollow Trailhead, near Salem, Indiana  The first half of the hike will be easy walking through a moist valley.  The second half will be moderately rugged ridge top hiking. For more information on the Knobstone trail see the Indiana DNR website at:  http://www.in.gov/dnr/knobstone/

Directions to the Spurgeon Hollow Trailhead: From Interstate I-65 take exit 29, Scottsburg, IN. Go west on Hwy 56 for aprox. 18 miles to first stoplight in Salem.  Turn right (North) onto Hwy 135 and go 3.5 miles and turn right on Delaney Park Road.  After 4.4 miles the road goes left after crossing an old iron bridge. At 5.6 miles from Hwy 135 is Spurgeon Hollow Trailhead on right down a gravel road.  Watch for the “KT” post.

For more information on the hike, email Charlie with subject heading "Hike September".
